A friend of Liam Payne and two hotel employees are reportedly under investigation in connection with the singer’s death.

According to TMZ, Argentine police conducted another round of raids on Tuesday night, targeting the homes of the hotel workers and an unidentified friend of the former One Direction star. Authorities also searched the hotel employees’ lockers and reviewed security footage from the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, where Payne died last month.

The police believe the hotel workers may have been in contact with Payne before his fatal fall from a third-floor balcony. Investigators also reportedly used text messages from Payne’s phone to identify the friend who may have supplied him with drugs, although the friend was not at home during the raid.

Earlier, the police had raided the hotel to gather evidence for the investigation, including documents, videos from the lobby and courtyard, and the hotel’s computers, phones, and other devices.

Payne, who was 31, died on October 16 from severe injuries after falling from the hotel’s third-floor balcony. Medical services director Alberto Crescenti stated that Payne suffered a fractured skull from the fall.

Upon searching his hotel room, authorities found drug paraphernalia and alcohol. Items such as an empty Dove soap packet, a burning candle, a burnt soda can top, and a piece of aluminum foil were discovered, which police believe may have been used for handling illegal substances.

A toxicology report revealed the presence of several drugs in Payne’s system, including crack cocaine, cocaine, and “pink cocaine,” a drug mix typically consisting of methamphetamine, ketamine, and MDMA.

Security footage showed that Payne was on the balcony when he fainted and fell. His body is expected to be flown back to the UK, where a funeral will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wolverhampton, his hometown.
