PUBLISHED NOV 6 2024, 22:04 ET

Liam Payne’s body is on its way back to England weeks after his tragic death. The 31-year-old former One Direction member fell from a third-floor balcony at his hotel. While investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death continue, his remains were cleared to be flown back home for burial.

A flight carrying Liam left Buenos Aires at 1:58 pm local time, according to the Buenos Aires Times. A video showed Liam’s father, Geoff Payne, at Ezeiza International Airport before boarding the plane.

Liam’s funeral is set to take place once his body arrives in the UK. The grieving father has been in Argentina since Liam’s death on October 16, assisting with the investigation and visiting the hotel where his son died. Geoff also spoke with fans outside the hotel, where they had created a memorial for Liam.

Before Liam’s death, a hotel employee called emergency services, reporting that a guest—later identified as Liam—was allegedly behaving erratically in the lobby and his room. The staff member expressed concern for Liam’s safety, fearing he might harm himself.

Sources have revealed that Liam’s funeral will feature musical tributes, as he loved singing and making music throughout his life. The service is expected to be attended by many celebrities, reflecting his popularity in the entertainment world, though his family wants a simple, respectful ceremony in line with what Liam would have wanted.
