Google is introducing Gemini image generation to Google Docs on the web for Workspace users, expanding on its existing AI features.
To use this feature, go to Insert > Image and select Help me create an image. You can describe your desired image, choose an aspect ratio (Square, Wide, or Tall), and pick a style: Photography, Vector art, Sketch, Watercolor, Cyberpunk, or I’m feeling lucky.
Once generated, you’ll be provided with a few image options, and you can click to insert your choice directly into your document. Google envisions this feature being especially helpful for tasks like creating restaurant menus, marketing briefs, or promotional materials. According to Google, the tool allows users to generate unique and visually appealing images regardless of artistic ability, helping to effectively communicate ideas without the need to search endlessly for the right image.
The feature is powered by Imagen 3, which can produce photorealistic images of people, landscapes, and more with improved detail.
For pageless documents, you can use Insert > Cover image > Help me create an image to generate images that span the entire width of the page. To switch to pageless mode, go to File > Page setup > Pageless or Format > Switch to Pageless format.
This feature is rolling out in the coming weeks for paying Google Workspace users with the following plans:
