Tyson, a former heavyweight champion and boxing legend whose career began in the 1980s, retired from professional boxing in 2005 but returned for exhibition matches. At 58, his last fight was in 2020 against fellow former champion Roy Jones Jr. Paul, now 27, trained for months in preparation for this fight, originally scheduled for July but postponed. During the weigh-in on Thursday, tensions flared when Tyson slapped Paul after the younger fighter crawled onto the stage, stepped on Tyson’s foot, and got in his face.

The event included a lineup of preliminary bouts before the main card.
