On Friday night, boxing veteran Mike Tyson faced off against Jake Paul in a highly anticipated heavyweight match that went the full eight rounds. Paul, a former YouTuber who transitioned to boxing in 2020, claimed victory by unanimous decision in what many viewers described as a lackluster bout.
Tyson, a former heavyweight champion and boxing legend whose career began in the 1980s, retired from professional boxing in 2005 but returned for exhibition matches. At 58, his last fight was in 2020 against fellow former champion Roy Jones Jr. Paul, now 27, trained for months in preparation for this fight, originally scheduled for July but postponed. Their training journey is featured in Netflix’s documentary Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson.
During the weigh-in on Thursday, tensions flared when Tyson slapped Paul after the younger fighter crawled onto the stage, stepped on Tyson’s foot, and got in his face.
The fight, heavily promoted throughout the year, took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and aired exclusively on Netflix. The event included a lineup of preliminary bouts before the main card. Ringside commentary was provided by Roy Jones Jr., Mauro Ranallo, and Rosie Perez, with Sean Wheelock serving as the rules and scoring expert and Mark Calo-oy as the referee.
The main event streamed live on Netflix on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT). All Netflix subscribers, regardless of their subscription tier, can rewatch the fight, even on the platform’s $7 ad-supported plan.
