Disney has reshuffled its release schedule, replacing a planned Star Wars movie with the latest installment of the Ice Age franchise, now set to debut on December 18, 2026. Details about the canceled Star Wars film had not been revealed.

Meanwhile, Disney recently announced that Simon Kinberg will write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy, with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also serving as producer. According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, the trilogy will introduce new characters and will not extend the Skywalker Saga from Episodes 1 through 9.

Another Star Wars project focusing on Rey Skywalker, portrayed by Daisy Ridley, is still in development under the direction of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. This film was first teased during Star Wars Celebration in London in April 2023.

Additionally, Jon Favreau is directing a Star Wars movie titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, a spinoff of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Starring Pedro Pascal, it is scheduled for theatrical release on May 22, 2026.

As for Ice Age 6, Disney confirmed its production during D23 Brazil, with voice talents Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, and John Leguizamo reprising their roles. This marks the first theatrical release in the franchise since Disney acquired it as part of its purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The previous film, Ice Age: Collision Course, premiered in July 2016 and grossed over $400 million worldwide.
